In Memory of a Skim Boarder

This was a fitting ceremony for a local California skim boarder. As you know from my previous posts, he was a popular and well liked boy.

It was a beautiful day. The ceremony took place at Treasure Island Beach (right below the Montage for you tourists).

A large group of skim buddies swam out behind the row boat containing flowers. They went a good distant out and formed a circle surrounding the rowboat. There was a small ceremony and the flowers were thrown overboard.

It was quite a site.

Janets SUV

I decided that Janet needed a bigger SUV to hold more and to also allow her to get to those hard to reach sales.

This one turned ou to be just what the doctor ordered.

Move over you Hummer girley boys!

Deadly Week

I attended the funeral services for the teenager that was killed last Saturday while riding his bike on Coast Hwy. The church (St. Catherine's) was overfilled with people standing in the aisles and the street below.

It was a real mixed crowd. The boys' skim board buddies were in the front rows definitely looking like surfers.

As I panned the crowd to get photos for the newspaper.... I noticed this one person that seemed to be very much at peace in this environment.

I thought this moment should be shared.

Skim Board Fun

One of the things I love about Laguna Beach is all of the local water sports.

Skim boarding is definitely a favorite of mine.

I guess it's because these guys go against the flow.

Hit and Run

I hate these scenes! Around 4:15 Saturday morning, a byciclist (I can't imagine why you would be riding a bike at that early hour) was run over, dragged and left to die by the driver that would not stop.

This happend on Coast Hwy around Victoria Beach going NorthBound.

The person killed was 17 years old (thanks Brent..) and a senior at LBHS.

What a bummer!

Someone made the comment to me that the police had one lane of the hwy closed until around 9:30. I guess they felt like that was too much of an inconvenience. I guess the police are just inconsiderate. They should rush when making an investigation, so they can also be chewed out for being sloppy.

So much for priorities!

Laguna Beach - Alleyways

You only have to go into an adjacent alleyway from the Coast Hwy to get a taste of what happens after midnight.

The ATV easily gets around in some of the spots where Police Cars try to go.

ATV - stands for Attack Tourist Vehicle.

When I was Young

I was going through some old photos the other day, when I came across this one back in 1952 in Upstate New York at a bungalow Colony by the name of Hoffmans colony.

I guess big ears just stay with you all of your life.

I wish I could say the same for the hair!

Jean Claude is Back!

Things were touch and go for the last few weeks. We were real close to putting JC down. He could hardly move and the vet could not find anything wrong.

It was a Wednesday and I was making plans to take him one last time to Heisler Park to look over the ocean before taking him to the vet for the final sleep.

I got down on the floor at his eye level and told him.... 'you gotta tell me if it's your time.... I need to know if you are in pain..'

He just stared at me..... but about 3 hours later he seemed to pick up some energy. He has been gaining strength ever since.

I wonder if it was the Chicken Soup???
